Rwandan national found dead in Kisoro

Rwandan national who was found hanging inside his rented house following a domestic dispute with his wife. Samuel Habiyakare, who was renting a house in Kagando village, Muramba sub-county in Kisoro district, is alleged to have had a misunderstanding with his wife on the night of September 18, 2026. According to police, Habiyakare reportedly chased his wife out of the house before locking himself inside. He was found dead inside the house the following day, hanging. Nelson Tumushime, Kigezi Region Police spokesperson, said police visited the scene and recovered the body, which was taken to Kisoro hospital mortuary for a postmortem examination. Tumushime urged members of the public experiencing stress, depression, financial difficulties or family problems to seek help from family members, local leaders, health workers or religious leaders. The suspected suicide brings to seven the number of suicide cases registered in the Kigezi region in recent months, according to police. Tumushime said the region has recently recorded an increase in suicide cases, with Kisoro district alone registering three cases in September. Among the cases is that of James Kamari, a primary school teacher and resident of Rubuguri town council in Kisoro district. In August, a 20-year-old senior five student, Babra Katusiime, a resident of Hamurangara village, Bugarama parish, Buhara sub-county in Kabale district, also died by suspected suicide after hanging.
